GoodReads Reading Challenge

I got a Kindle Paperwhite at the end of last year and it has definitely helped me to read more.  I wanted to keep track of what I was reading and how many books I had actually read, more out of curiosity just to see how many I would actually read in a year.  I stumbled across this website called Goodreads and signed up.  It is a site where you keep a record of what you are reading, what you’ve read and what you want to read.  It is also a social site where you can add your friends and everyone can rate and review the books they have read.  I was surprised to find I had a few friends already on the website, you can see what they have read and if you have any books in common as well.  I was not really bothered about this aspect, I am more bothered about just keeping a record of what I have read.

I also discovered that you could set yourself a reading challenge for the year, which makes it even easier to see the amount of books you have read throughout the year.  I set my book challenge to 25.  Yes this may not be a lot but I didn’t want to set a ridiculous amount that I knew I would never be able to reach, I am not doing it for the challenge as such as I have said.  I do not always have time to read either so I didn’t want a challenge where I had to read a book every single week!

goodreads

I have already read 5 books which I am quite proud of.  Before I got my Kindle I liked to read but I never made the time for it.  So I would be lucky to have read 5 in a year at times!  I have been able to find my passion for reading again.

Here are the five books I have read so far.  As you can see four of them are the Maze Runner books.  I decided to get through them all before moving on to anything else.  I wasn’t sure if I could get into these books at the start of the first one but I soon found myself getting used to them and reading the entire lot.  The other book is the popular ‘The Girl on The Train’.  I did like this book in the end but I found that it only really got interesting for me at the half way point which was a little disappointing.

Here are the books I am currently reading.  I have only just started ‘Gone Girl’, I have watched the film and wanted to see how it compares with the book.  The other book I am reading as I am trying to change my lifestyle to a healthy lifestyle and stick by it.  I was recommended ‘The Body Book’ so I though I would give it a go.

Are you wanting to read more this year?

What books have you read so far and what would you recommend?

I have started to read a lot more since i got my iPad & the Amazon Kindle app, a friend of mine is an author (Bethan Cooper) and her book Never Say Goodbye is a fabulous read! I’m currently reading a book by Julie Shaw called, My Cousin Vinnie, based on true events of a crime family from Bradford in Yorkshire, i would recommend both!.

I also have the Kindle app on my phone and because it is Samsung I get one free book a month which is good. I will definitely check out those books you have mentioned, thanks.

I fancy setting myself a reading target too although I only really get time to read in the school holidays.

The only book I’ve read so far this year is The girl on the train. It sounds silly but as much as I loved it, it started to bug me how much time she spent going back and forth on the train, considering she was skint and that trains are expensive haha! Did really enjoy it though and read it in a day.

Also read gone girl before, and loved it although I was disappointed with the ending but I guess you’ve seen the movie and know how it goes. I’ve heard her other books are even better.

I agree some of the characters in The Girl On The Train did annoy me a little bit and I felt it finally picked up half way through, but I did enjoy it. I didn’t manage to read it in a day though! Think it was just under a week for me.
It is tricky to fit reading in sometimes, I fit it in when I go to bed. I read a little before I go to sleep.
I have also heard that Gillian Flynn’s other books are better than Gone Girl, if I enjoy it I will have to check out her others.
I say if you want to set a target go ahead and do it, try the website I mentioned, see if that helps out at all. Good luck with your target if you choose to do one. 🙂

I love goodreads. It helps to track all the books that I’ve read and did I enjoyed them (how I rated them). My reading goal this year – 24 books and it is going very well so far (3 books ahead) 🙂
